Scott Brison, MP

Scott Brison, MP Kings-Hants
Scott Brison, MP from Kings-Hants in Nova Scotia, trades his private member bill time to get Bill C-311 through 3rd Reading before the House rises for the summer. After the NDP filibuster, this non-partisan cooperation and support for Canadian wine drinkers makes Scott a FreeMyGrapes hero.

Provincial Updates -
There's still more work to do

Manitoba and
BC allow direct to consumer inter-provincial wine imports. FreeMyGrapes thanks them for their leadership.

CVA and Mark Hicken both say Alberta also permits direct online ordering but Alberta's AGLC says no. Mark Hicken's expert view is that Ontario is also open but the LCBO says no.
Views for Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia differ.

Alliance of Canadian Wine Consumers

(ACWC) is a grassroots, volunteer alliance of wine lovers whose goal is to change the provincial and federal laws so Canadians can purchase not-for-resale wine directly from Canadian wineries in other provinces and have it shipped to their homes.

There is an archaic law, Importation of Intoxicating Liquors Act or IILA, and the accompanied provincial legislation/regulations that need to change. Canadians should be able to buy, order and ship Canadian wines across provincial borders for personal use without getting a fine or jail time and a criminal record. Equally, wineries should not be threatened with prosecution or having their products removed from provincial liquor board stores because they took an order from an adult Canadian who happens to live in another province.

Change will only happen if we tell politicians what we want.

We’ve made it easy for you to tell your provincial MPP/MLA/MNA that you want the laws changed so you can buy great Canadian wines.

Nominate A Great Canadian Wine

Do you know a great Canadian wine from another province that is sold only at the winery or you can’t find on the shelf at your local liquor/wine store?

Send us your Great Canadian Wine for ACWC’s “We want this wine!” page.
